Better Homes and Gardens New Cookbook

I love this cookbook because it reads almost like a magazine. It's highly visual and goes in depth on teaching techniques. This has been a classic for so many years, that it even compares original recipes vs their updated versions.

This is one of the most comprehensive books on pie that I have ever read! The recipes are fantastic and very detailed in terms of instructions. It Tastes Better From Scratch vs. The Culinary Secret

Now that I’ve read more than 1,000 cookbooks I’m starting to see a few trends! Oftentimes multiple cookbooks will feature the same recipe; in this case it’s Butter Chicken. Now, from initial glance, it appears to be a very very similar recipe, but once you start to read you notice nothing could be further from the truth.

In the case of It Tastes Better From Scratch and The Culinary Secret, both Butter Chicken recipes had a host of similar ingredients but in the end, here were the big differences:

  • TBFS (Tastes Better From Scratch) blends their gravy while TCS (The Culinary Secret) keeps theirs chunky

  • TCS roasts their chicken and asks for you to put it on a charcoal grill. TBFS sautes theirs in a cast iron skillet

  • TBFS adds a pinch of sugar to round out the sauce but TCS keeps theirs spicy and tomato forward

In the end It Tastes Better From Scratch won my heart and my stomach!
