There is nothing I love more than when packages with cookbooks arrive in the mail.
When this package arrived, I was blown away by the thoughtfulness of the packaging. Simply West African has been on my list of must reads so the timing could not have been more perfect.
I’ve never made Fonio before but promise to test it out and share my thoughts.
The spice blend was the icing on the cake and you better believe I’m testing it out with my famous chicken cutlets (make sure to watch the chicken cutlets video linked above)

Not worth it…
As sad as it is to admit, not every cookbook deserves a spot in your kitchen.
These two were disappointing.

The instructions left a lot to be desired. I was constantly asking myself if this was what I was supposed to be doing. The food turned out ok but I was winging it half the time so definitely room for improvement.

The Gullah Geeche Cookbook By Abebe Kimathi
Never in my cookbook career have I had this happen to me. The recipe title and photo was not at all what the instructions had you make. My test recipe was for a type of soup and what I ended up making was a hash with a fried egg. After the mishap, I did some research on the author and publisher and couldn’t find anything about them. It makes me wonder who produced this cookbook and how much attention to detail was put into it.
